A Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branch in the Raleigh, NC area partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor a local veteran and veterans organization.
The first honoree at the event was a U.S. Air Force veteran who told the assembled guests that he had been in danger of becoming homeless. Fairway and AWI collaborated to provide this deserving veteran with a $10,000 grant to cover his housing and transportation expenses. Also at the event, Fairway and AWI honored a non-profit organization, The Joel Fund, with a $2,500 grant. The Joel Fund was started by the daughter of a 20-year Navy SEAL veteran who lost his battle with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Branch manager Colin Tommerson was so excited to be a part of this great occasion. He said:
“The AWI event was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve been a part of. You could literally feel the positive, loving energy in the room. It was palpable. Our veteran wept in my arms as he thanked me for our generosity. I responded, ‘No, brother; thank YOU!’ Then I told him I loved him, and he looked at me and smiled and said, ‘This is going to turn everything around for me. This is what I needed.’ It definitely wasn’t all about the money. I’m tearing up as I share this memory. So special. And I’m so grateful to be part of the Fairway Nation and for having the opportunity to participate in the AWI event in Raleigh!”
Co-founded by Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell, the American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage. AWI seeks to ease U.S. veterans’ transition from military to civilian life.
